Bold Thief Infiltrates Kano State House, Flees with Deputy Gov’s Convoy Truck

A daring car thief breached security at Nigeria’s Kano Government House early Monday, slipping in through a side entrance and driving off with a Toyota Hilux van from the deputy governor’s official fleet, authorities revealed amid a frantic probe into the lapse.

The intruder accessed the fortified compound via Gate 4 before dawn, sources close to the investigation said, and was captured on surveillance footage calmly exiting through the main gates around 5:00 am with the pilfered vehicle.

Insiders disclosed the van belonged to Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam’s convoy, highlighting vulnerabilities in patrols that reportedly only cover the office complex during business hours or when the official is present.

The vehicle’s driver, identified as Shafiu Sharp-Sharp, underwent questioning and a short detention as part of the inquiry, with security teams now scouring footage for clues.

“Already investigation has been launched. The driver is being quizzed, while the CSO (Chief Security Officer) is analysing the CCTV footages,” a source familiar with the matter told reporters. “The description of the vehicle has also been given to security agents to impound the vehicle and arrest the thief,” the source added.

Governor Abba Yusuf’s office remained tight-lipped, with spokesman Sanusi Dawakin Tofa unresponsive to queries.
