Boniface Joins Werder Bremen on Season-Long Loan

Nigerian forward Victor Boniface has officially joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan from Bayer Leverkusen, the German club confirmed on Monday evening.

Werder Bremen’s head of professional football, Peter Niemeyer, welcomed the move, praising Boniface’s prior performances in the Bundesliga and expressing confidence that he would continue to shine at Bremen . Bremen coach Horst Steffen added his enthusiasm, calling the 24-year-old “a very important factor for us this season”.

The transfer comes after AC Milan withdrew from negotiations due to concerns over Boniface’s fitness. Nonetheless, Werder Bremen successfully completed his medical and secured the one-year loan deal, with part of his salary reportedly covered.

Boniface’s departure signals a fluid situation at Leverkusen, where recent managerial upheaval—including the dismissal of Erik ten Hag—has raised speculation about squad restructuring .
