BREAKING: Anthony Joshua Injured in Fatal Ogun Road Crash, Two Others Die

British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua escaped with minor injuries from a deadly road collision in Ogun state on Monday, when his convoy vehicle struck a parked truck, killing two others, according to witnesses and his promoter.

The 36-year-old fighter was traveling on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway near Makun when the Lexus SUV he occupied crashed shortly after 11:00 am local time, amid his week-long visit to the West African nation following a recent bout.

Online videos captured Joshua appearing disoriented and shirtless inside the damaged jeep surrounded by broken glass, before he was seen conversing with authorities from an emergency response vehicle.

An eyewitness recounted the scene to local media: “It was a two-vehicle convoy: a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV. Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another person beside him. There was also a passenger sitting beside the driver, making four occupants in the Lexus that crashed. His security detail was in the vehicle behind them before the crash.”

“Other eyewitnesses and I began the rescue and flagged down oncoming vehicles to assist. A few minutes after the crash, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived,” the witness added.

Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, addressed the incident from abroad: “I am away on a family holiday and awoke to the news of this incident. We are trying to contact Anthony and in the meantime we don’t want to speculate on how he is but thankfully he appears OK from what I have seen in the images.”

“We are awaiting more information on what has happened and will update in due course,” Hearn stated.

The athlete had shared an Instagram update hours earlier, depicting himself playing table tennis bare-chested with a friend, captioned: “@healthy_mindset dishing out table tennis smoke.”

Joshua, fresh from a knockout win against Jake Paul in Miami, is slated for a February 2026 fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, though the crash’s impact on his preparations remains unclear.

Road accidents are frequent in Nigeria, often linked to poor infrastructure and speeding, with authorities yet to release an official report on the cause.
