The Federal Government has ordered the immediate closure of 47 Federal Unity Colleges across the country, citing escalating security threats and the need to forestall potential attacks, according to an official circular seen by Angel Network News on Sunday.
The directive, issued by the Federal Ministry of Education and signed by Hajia Binta Abdulkadir, Director of Senior Secondary Education, mandates principals of the affected schools to “ensure strict compliance” with the shutdown order.
“Sequel to the recent security challenges in some parts of the country and the need to prevent any security breaches, the Honourable Minister of Education has approved the immediate closure of the listed Federal Unity Colleges with immediate effect,” the circular dated 21 December 2025 stated.
The ministry disclose the specific schools affected in the circular, but noted that the measure was taken to safeguard students and prevent further exposure to danger.
“Please, accept the warm regards of the Honourable Minister,” Abdulkadir added, underscoring the urgency and official weight of the directive.
The sudden shutdown comes amid rising concerns over school-targeted attacks in northern Nigeria, particularly abductions carried out by armed groups.
Further details, including the full list of affected colleges were immediately listed.
