BREAKING: Gov Adeleke Defects to Accord Party, Cites Commitment to ‘Welfarism’

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke officially declared his defection to the Accord Party, making the announcement on Tuesday just days after confirming his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor Adeleke formalized his switch at the Government House Banquet Hall in the presence of the party’s national and state leadership, unveiling the Accord Party as his platform for seeking re-election in 2026.

The governor revealed that the decision was not recent, stating he joined the party “more than a month ago, precisely on November 6, as a platform to seek re-election in 2026.” He clarified that the decision followed “weeks of consultation and deliberations with stakeholders and opinion leaders.”

Adeleke, who had formally resigned from the PDP on December 2, blaming “the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party at the national level,” justified his new political home by stressing ideological alignment. He noted that he chose Accord because its mission of welfarism is consistent with his administration’s priorities.

“The focus on people’s welfare should always be at the heart of public leadership. The primary essence of government is the welfare and well-being of the people,” Adeleke said. He added that his administration has already prioritized “the welfare of our people, from workers to the entire citizenry.”

In his declaration, the governor expressed confidence in retaining power under the new banner, telling supporters, “Osun voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026. The mass of our people are for continuity, and Accord is our party for victory next year.”
