The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially nominated Adebayo as its governorship candidate for the 2026 election in Osun State, following the withdrawal of former front-runner Ademola Adeleke, party sources confirmed Thursday.
The decision, ratified at a high-level meeting of the PDP National Working Committee, gives Adebayo the mandate to contest what is shaping up to be a high-stakes election in the South-west state.
A statement issued by the party’s national secretary said Adebayo’s emergence reflects “broad consensus among stakeholders for unity and focused campaign strategy ahead of the polls.”
According to internal PDP sources, several factors contributed to Adeleke’s absence from the final shortlist — including “internal arrangement constraints and the need to field a consensus candidate acceptable to all zones.”
