President Bola Tinubu has authorized the deployment of 65 ambassadors and high commissioners to represent Nigeria abroad.
The list features 34 non-career envoys and 31 from the foreign service cadre, with assignments to countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, as well as the United Nations.
Notable non-career postings include Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, Reno Omokri to Mexico, retired general Abdulrahman Dambazau to China, and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s permanent representative to the UN in New York.
Others are Ita Enang to South Africa, Okezie Ikpeazu to Spain, Isaac Adewole to Canada, and Lateef Kayode Are to the United States.
Among career diplomats, Mohammed Mahmud Lele heads to Algeria, Shehu Barde to Ghana, Aminu Nasir to Ethiopia, and Ibrahim Danlami to Kenya.
Further assignments include Ayeni Adebayo to Belgium, Akande Wahab to Switzerland, and Nwabiola Ezenwa to Côte d’Ivoire.
The foreign ministry has secured agréments from Britain for Aminu Dalhatu and from France for Ayodele Oke, with requests pending for the remaining nominees.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said: “The Ministry has also conveyed the nominations of the other 62 designated envoys to all the countries concerned, including a request for their agréments in line with standard diplomatic practice.”
Tinubu has instructed the ministry to organize an induction for the envoys, following their Senate confirmation in December 2025.
This marks the first major ambassadorial reshuffle since 2017 under the previous administration.
