U.S. President Donald J. Trump has issued a fiery warning to the Nigerian government, threatening to halt all American aid and possibly authorize military intervention if attacks on Christians in the country continue.
In a post shared on his Truth Social account Friday evening, Trump accused Nigeria’s leadership of “allowing the killing of Christians” and vowed that the United States could take direct military action to “completely wipe out the Islamic terrorists” behind the violence.
“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country ‘guns-a-blazing,’” Trump wrote.
He further directed the U.S. Department of War to “prepare for possible action,” describing any future strike as one that would be “fast, vicious, and sweet.”
“I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our cherished Christians!” he added.
Trump’s post ended with a stark warning to Nigerian authorities:
“WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”
The statement comes amid renewed international debate over religious persecution and security failures in Nigeria’s northern and central regions, where extremist groups such as Boko Haram and ISWAP have been accused of carrying out deadly attacks on Christian communities.
Trump’s remarks follow similar concerns raised by U.S. lawmakers, including Senator Ted Cruz, who recently introduced a bill to sanction Nigerian officials accused of enforcing blasphemy and Sharia laws.
