Buhari’s Cashless Policy Didn’t Work, Our Money Was Confiscated: Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has lambasted the cashless policy of his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.

According to him, the cashless policy implemented by the former president’s administration did not work.

He made the comment while on a visit to the Awujale of Ijebu land, Ọba Sikiru Kayọde Adetọna, on Thursday, June 29.

The president consequently declared the cashless policy implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria ineffective.

Reflecting on the challenges in the build-up to the 2023 presidential election, President Tinubu recounted his concerns about the confiscation of funds and the failure of the cashless policy.

He also revealed how he had previously sought wisdom and guidance from Oba Adetona during his visit to the palace.

He said: “Our monies were confiscated. The cashless policy didn’t work; it was terrible then. I realised that and I came to Ogun state to invoke the spirit of freedom which we are noted for.”
