Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy expresses disappointment after receiving a BRIT plaque for surpassing one billion streams in the United Kingdom two years later.
The ‘African Giant’ artist was awarded a BRIT plaque at his sold-out show at the London Stadium on Saturday night in recognition of this achievement.
However, the singer protested the award while emphasizing it being a stale recognition from over two years ago when he hit the milestone.
“What I want to know is why I’m getting this? Why not add all of them together; a bigger one. This was two years ago; nawa for una o. You people should update but I appreciate it,” he stated.
It is worth noting that he joins fellow Nigerian artist Wizkid as one of the only African artists to have over a billion streams in the United Kingdom.
Additionally, Burna Boy holds the record for the highest-peaking African album on the UK chart, with his sixth studio album ‘Love, Damini’ topping the chart in July 2022.
Following his sold-out show on Saturday, Burna Boy also became the first African artist to sell out the 80,000-capacity London Stadium twice.
