Bus Driver In FRSC Net, To Face Arraignment For Endangering Passengers’ Lives

A driver simply identified as Mr Linus, attached to Benue Link transport company was on Saturday for willful endangerment of the lives of no fewer than 12 passengers.

The vehicle is a Toyota Hiace bus with Reg No. APP 908 XP.

According to an eyewitness, Mr Jideofor Okoye, the driver had barely taken off from Onitsha when the occupants started signaling to people for help.

Okoye said it was noticed that the vehicle was virtually crawling with a faulty brake system and all the plea by the passengers fell on deaf ears.

He said the driver rebuffed FRSC personnel on patrol at Nteje but was eventually arrested at the Awkuzu with the assistance of military personnel at the checkpoint.

He said the vehicle was impounded at Nteje FRSC unit office while alternative arrangement was made for the occupants to enable them continue their journey.

“The carelessness of the driver was too much, there was no way that vehicle could have completed the journey. The more dangerous problem was that the brake system is bad,” he said

When contacted, Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander of FRSC in Anambra confirmed that the vehicle was impounded.

He said the driver was arrested and would be prosecuted in Court.
