The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed that Morocco will host the crucial African playoffs for qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with venues, dates, and kick-off times now announced.
According to CAF’s schedule, the mini-tournament among the four best runners-up from the group stage will be held between Nov. 10 and Nov. 18, 2025 in Morocco.
The format, as outlined, features two semi-finals, followed by a final. The winner of the final will earn Africa’s sole spot in the inter-confederation playoffs in March 2026.
In a statement, CAF explained the process: “The four best second-place teams across the CAF qualifying groups will stage this playoff tournament. The winner proceeds to the inter-confederation playoff for a chance at World Cup qualification.”
Earlier reporting had suggested the choice of Morocco, already set to host the next Africa Cup of Nations, as the host nation for these decisive matches.
This decision sets the stage for a climactic endgame in Africa’s qualifying campaign, offering one last path to the global stage and intensifying competition among top continental runners-up.
