CAS Accepts Senegal’s Appeal Over Stripped 2025 AFCON Title

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has formally confirmed it has received Senegal’s appeal against the Confederation of African Football’s decision to strip the Lions of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations crown following their walk-off in the final against hosts Morocco.

The Senegalese Football Federation lodged the challenge last week after CAF’s Appeal Board ruled the team forfeited the match under Articles 82 and 84 of the tournament regulations, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory and the title.

Senegal’s federation president Augustin Senghor described the CAF ruling as “manifestly erroneous” and said the appeal seeks to restore the result achieved on the pitch.

“We are confident that the Court of Arbitration for Sport will uphold the principles of fairness and the truth of the game,” Senghor said. “This decision directly contradicts the fundamental principles of sporting ethics, foremost among which are fairness, loyalty, and respect for the truth of the game.”

CAF has not yet commented on the appeal. The Court of Arbitration for Sport said the case would follow its standard expedited procedure for urgent sporting disputes.
