Chicago Stars Secure Nigeria International Alozie in Deal with Houston Dash

The Houston Dash have reached an agreement to trade Nigerian international defender Michelle Alozie to Chicago Stars FC, the club confirmed on Monday.

In exchange for the versatile 28-year-old, the Dash will receive $40,000 in allocation money, marking the end of Alozie’s four-year tenure in Texas.

Alozie, a standout for the Super Falcons at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics, leaves Houston having made 80 appearances and scoring seven goals across all competitions.

The Yale graduate originally joined the Dash as a national team replacement player in 2021 before establishing herself as a cornerstone of the roster. Her departure comes just a year after she was named to the WAFCON Best XI and shortlisted for the FIFPRO Women’s World XI.

”The defender appeared in 80 games and started 37 matches for the club across all competitions,” the Dash noted in an official statement, highlighting her role in the team’s 2022 postseason qualification.

Beyond her athletic prowess, Alozie gained significant recognition in Houston for her dual career as a cancer research technician at the Texas Medical Center. Her contributions to the community earned her a nomination for the Community Impact Award at the 2024 Houston Sports Awards.

The move to Chicago provides the Stars with an experienced international presence in defense, while the Dash bolster their financial resources ahead of the 2026 campaign.

Alozie’s exit follows her recent participation in the Nigerian squad that secured the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations title.
