The Chairman, Anambra State Waste Management Authority, ASWAMA, Dr. Emma Ezewanji says it will no longer tolerate the non-compliance to the monthly environmental sanitation exercise.
Ezewanji while speaking during the July edition of the exercise in Awka, revealed that their first step implementation plan is to clamp down on transporters who ply the road during the period of sanitation exercise and said that going forward anyone caught during the sanitation hours would henceforth be prosecuted.
The ASWAMA boss regretted that many people do not join in the exercise against government directive, warning that the agency has finalized plans to make available long bus and security personnel that will assist in moving trekkers to the magistrate court for prosecution.
At Nkwo Amaenyi Awka, the Enforcement Committee Officer for Awka South Council Area Prince Ikechukwu Ndigwe expressed concern about the flouting of the no-movement order during sanitation periods by private and commercial vehicles, urging residents to come out en masse and actively participate in the statewide exercise.
Ndigwe assured that more efforts would be concentrated on the cleaning of drains and canals and challenged all Councilors in the area to actively participate and champion compliance.
ANN gathered that at Eke Nibo and Amawbia, the compliance level was high as security agencies were seen enforcing the sanitation order by restricting vehicular movement and ensure that no trading activities are ongoing during the stipulated time.
