Danish professional footballer Patrick Dorgu, who plays as a wing-back for Premier League club Manchester United and the Denmark national team, has officially added “Chinazaekpere” to his name on match sheets, the club website, and official communications.
The decision, made at the request of his family, reflects his heritage and religious beliefs. “Chinazaekpere,” which translates to God answers prayers, is a name of Igbo origin, signifying deep faith and cultural roots.
Going forward, he will be referred to as Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, as reported by the Manchester Evening News (MEN).

Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu, born on October 26, 2004, in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Nigerian parents Paul and Clara Dorgu, began his football journey at FC Nordsjaelland, a club renowned for nurturing young talent. In July 2022, he transferred to Italian Serie A side Lecce, where he made a significant impact. During his tenure at Lecce, Dorgu made 57 appearances and scored three goals, showcasing his versatility by playing as a left-back, wing-back, and winger.
In February 2025, Manchester United secured Dorgu’s services on a five-and-a-half-year deal worth approximately £25 million, with potential performance-related add-ons.
