Music stars Davido and Dauda Kahutu Rarara have engaged in a heated public exchange on social media, triggered by differing views on the country’s worsening security challenges.
The row erupted after Davido used a World Cup-related performance to spotlight the abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State, wearing a shirt listing the names of victims from a recent attack by suspected jihadists.
In a strongly worded post on X, Davido urged citizens to speak out: “Damn it, every Nigerian should not stay silent about the insecurity plaguing the nation, nor should they prevent others from voicing their concerns openly. Showing bias and prioritising personal or political interests… is nothing to be proud of. Be a patriot for your country.”
He followed up with a Hausa-language message apparently aimed at Rarara: “If you had any knowledge, I would have taken the time to argue with you. But you know absolutely nothing; you’re just a fool.”
Rarara hit back in the comments section, writing: “Ka shiga taitayinka,” which translates to “You should be careful.”
The exchange has ignited widespread debate online about the role of celebrities in addressing national issues, particularly amid persistent attacks on schools and communities.
Rarara had earlier posted a video criticising Davido’s stance on the insecurity matter.
