The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, has formally resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the “current crisis of the national leadership” as the decisive factor in his departure.
The development, which became public late Monday night, was confirmed by a letter addressed to the chairman of Ward 2 in Ede North, dated November 4, 2025. The move immediately throws the state’s political landscape into deeper uncertainty ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Party Turmoil Cited as Reason
In the resignation document, which was manually received and signed by the ward chairman, Governor Adeleke was unequivocal about the reason for his decision to leave the party under which he was elected.
“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my Membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the governor wrote.
Despite his abrupt exit, the former Senator for Osun West expressed gratitude for the political platform the party provided him during his career.
“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party,” he added.
Davido Reacts to Uncle’s Move
Adding a layer of celebrity interest to the political drama, Governor Adeleke’s nephew, Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido or Mr P, posted the resignation letter on his official X handle on Tuesday.
Davido’s reaction consisted of a single, cryptic word: “Jeje…”
The comment immediately generated widespread interpretation among Nigerians online, with many users speculating the singer was urging caution or calling for calm, while others suggested the post was simply an acknowledgment of the significant political shift within the Adeleke family.
Crisis Deepens for Osun PDP
Adeleke’s departure has intensified the organizational confusion within the Osun State PDP. The Governor was reportedly the sole aspirant who had purchased the nomination form for the upcoming 2026 governorship primary, a process that had already been stalled due to the unresolved national conflicts he cited.
The Governor has yet to disclose his next political affiliation, leading to widespread speculation that he may be considering an alternative platform for the 2026 contest.
