Davido has opened up about his deep friendship with longtime aide Israel DMW, describing him as a confidant he can turn to in emotional moments, despite facing public ridicule over their dynamic.
In a livestream session with skitmaker Carter Efe, Davido drew parallels between his bond with Israel and Carter’s relationship with his associate Kolu, emphasizing how their connection has evolved beyond a professional one.
“A lot of people laugh at me and Israel, but he is one of my best friends and someone I can cry to,” Davido said during the conversation.
The revelation comes amid a history of ups and downs in their relationship, including rumors of a fallout in August when Davido unfollowed Israel on Instagram. However, the pair appeared to reconcile shortly after, with Israel sharing photos from Davido’s tour in Canada and praising the singer’s wedding to Chioma Adeleke.
Davido further solidified their ties by gifting Israel a luxury Rolex watch, dispelling any notions of lingering tension.
Earlier in July, reports emerged that Davido’s management and family had barred Israel from joining the singer’s “Five” tour, citing his alleged disruptive behavior as a source of embarrassment and distraction.
Israel, whose real name is Israel Afeare, has frequently expressed profound gratitude toward Davido for transforming his life, including facilitating international travel opportunities and securing visas.
In past statements, Israel credited Davido for enabling his first private jet experience, a 10-year UK visa, visits to the United States, Canada, and France, once declaring the singer his “Lord and Saviour” in 2022 after obtaining a two-year UK visa.
He has also likened his trips to America as akin to “Heaven,” underscoring the opportunities provided by his association with the Afrobeat icon.
