Dubai Hostel Ifite Awka, Awka South Local Government Area has finally collapsed less than 78 hours after Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) evacuated all occupants of the building.
Reacting on the development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ACTDA, Mr. Ossy Onuko appreciated God that no single life was lost in the collapsed building, and commended his team for being responsive in the discharge of their duties.
Mr. Onuko wondered the magnitude of fatalities that would had been recorded, had his team did not evacuate occupants of the building and showered encomiums on Governor Chukwuma Soludo for providing them with enough logistics and support for them to execute the job effectively and efficiently.
The ACTDA boss urged residents of Awka Capital Territory to always assist the agency in identifying distressed buildings, illegal and unapproved structures within their jurisdiction to enhance the efficiency of their work, and for the betterment of the society.
The Deputy Commander of the Development Control Unit of the agency, Mr. Nkwachukwu Okonkwo who led the team to carry out the evacuation exercise, also expressed delight that no life was lost in the collapse building, adding that they will continue to discharge their duties without fear of favour.
Angel Network News (ANN) recall that the distressed building was recently observed by the Development Control Unit of ACTDA and they swung into action and seamlessly evacuated all occupants of the building to avert imminent danger.
