Delta Police Begin Full Enforcement of Tinted Glass, Siren, and Number Plate Regulations

The Delta State Police Command has announced that from October 2, 2025, it will commence full-scale enforcement of regulations on tinted glass, unauthorised sirens, strobe lights, and vehicle number plates across the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Command pledged that the exercise would be carried out “with professionalism, respect for constitutional rights, and zero tolerance for abuse.”

The directive restated that motorists must always carry valid driver’s licences, insurance, proof of ownership, and ensure their glass complies with transparency standards. Number plates, the police stressed, “must remain clear, legible, and properly affixed at all times; no bending, flipping, tinting, covering, sticker obstruction, or any alteration that renders them unreadable is permitted.”

Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda Olufemi said the clampdown is aimed at stopping illegal sirens, unauthorised flashing lights, and tampered plates, which often contribute to road intimidation and public safety risks.

“Defaulters will be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Olufemi warned, while directing divisional heads to ensure civility in enforcement.

The Command also provided contact numbers for the public to report misconduct: 09155570008, 09011112311, 09064308018, and 09066575187.

The move follows the Nigeria Police Force’s earlier decision on August 11 to extend the nationwide tinted glass permit enforcement deadline, originally set for August 12, after a surge in applications. Authorities said the extension allowed for proper scrutiny to preserve the integrity of the process and prevent abuse.
