Afro-European pop artist and entrepreneur, Dencia, has set social media ablaze with a bold statement comparing corruption levels in African governments to those in the United States. In a now-viral Instagram Story, Dencia warned her followers about trusting U.S. media and politicians, stating that “African politicians are still in kindergarten compared to the level of corruption here in the U.S.”
The singer, known for her outspokenness and fashion-forward persona, didn’t hold back in the Instagram post which has been shared widely across platforms.
“Believe anything you see about the United States at the risk of your mental health,” she wrote. “No one lies more than the news outlets and U.S. politicians.”
Dencia, who spent her early years in Africa before moving to the West, shared that she once believed African governments were the pinnacle of corruption—until adulthood in America painted a darker picture.
Public Reaction and Media Fallout
Her comments have stirred up sharp debates online, particularly among African diaspora communities, political commentators, and transparency advocates. While some praised her candor for shedding light on global hypocrisy, others criticized the comparison as oversimplified and unfair.
“I never thought I’d hear someone say American corruption outpaces Africa’s,” wrote one Twitter user. “But Dencia said the quiet part out loud.”
A Growing Chorus Against U.S. Political Institutions?
Dencia’s viral statement adds to a growing chorus of voices, especially from immigrants and expatriates, who are disillusioned with the American political system. With increasing political scandals, corporate lobbying, and disinformation campaigns, many argue that the perceived moral high ground of Western democracies may be more myth than reality.
