Almost everything we enjoy today was impossible yesterday: the airplane, drones, the computer, the internet, supersonic and jamming weapons, the submarines etc., were all inconceivable yesterday. But come to think of it, what transforms impossibility to possibility and a possibility into reality? The answer simply and squarely is living your dream. It is not wrong for a person to dream but it is also not enough for one to just dream. That is why we all have to ‘dare’!
The courage to live your Dream
The world can be likened to a book where those who do not dare read only a page. They have dreams which they long to accomplish and goals which they wish to achieve. These dreams and goals lie very deep within their hearts and minds withering and dying slowly because they dwell in the dream land of dread and impossibilities. Elizabeth Kenny captured this: “it is better to be a lion for a day than to live as a sheep all your whole life just dreaming. All it takes is summoning a little courage and taking the chances, the risk and bearing the loss because nothing good can come with ease.”
Do whatever it takes to achieve your Dream
Never forget that the journey of a thousand miles starts with a step. You may encounter a lot of difficulties along the way but you must also be ready to work hard, endure, persevere and sacrifice in order to reach your target. Do not be among those who say what they cannot do but rather join the club of those who are hesitant to speak but let their actions say it all. That is to work in silence and let your success make the noise.
Your Dream and time
Everything under the son happens in time. To be successful or to fail is a factor determined by time. So dreaming without daring is like gold within the earth or like unrefined crude oil. It has no value until it is mined and refined. In the same way, dreams are worthless until they are worked out in time. Never you believe or say, “it is impossible” but rather give your best and in the end, your hard work will pay off. It is not enough to plan your dreams; you must also work out your dreams. Why not do today what can be done tomorrow. Do not be a procrastinator because by the time a procrastinator decides to take action, s/he discovers that it is already too late and that the opportunity has passed by. Do not do it someday but today, because the more you shy away the more impossible it seems to you. So ask yourself, “if I do not take action now, and I miss this opportunity, am I ready to bear the loss? Remember, wasting your time dreaming is equivalent to wasting your life doing nothing and gaining nothing.
A young man named John Henry Fabien once conducted an experiment with ‘processionary’ caterpillars. The caterpillars are so named because they have a habit of blindly following each other no matter the direction. In this research, Fabien placed these tiny creatures in a circle. For twenty-four hours, the caterpillars difficultly followed one another around. Then Fabien placed the caterpillars around a saucer full of pine needles which is their favourite food, but they did not seem to take notice of the meal right beside them. For six days, the mindless creatures continuously moved around the saucer, dying from starvation though abundance of food was kept less than a metre away. The caterpillars were active but they weren’t achieving anything and that is because they were moving in the wrong direction.
Dream is the Graveyard of Chances and Talents
The same is applicable to our life. If you dream all your lives without daring, your dream will never produce anything. It is just a waste of time. Dreaming and procrastinating is the grave in which chances and God given talents are buried. So why not do today what can be done tomorrow .William James reflected: “Nothing is as fatiguing as the eternal hanging of an uncompleted task.” When people delay action until all factors are perfect, they do nothing.
Daring to Achieve your Dreams Step by Step
Finally, remember that Rome was not built in a day. In other words, nothing great was suddenly created, everything big starts with something small. Nothing can be done without a start, nothing worthwhile happens overnight. The road to success is narrow and that of failure is broad. Success is difficult to obtain and even more difficult to maintain. It’s not all about achieving success but also keeping up the momentum because you can’t afford to stop along the way. That would only make all your efforts soon worthless .If your life is ever going to be better, your dreams achieved, you will have to “dare”.
Action is the Key to Achieving your Dreams
Bear in mind that there is a key which unlocks life’s possibilities. Dreams and aspirations are good but not good enough; faith and hope are good but not good enough, targets and goals are good but not also good enough; you have to prove all these and there is only one way to do that and it is action! You need to work your dreams to reality because then and only then will history which reveres the wise (dreamers) but elevates you brave (darers) elevate you.
