DR Congo produced a valiant defensive display but fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Colombia in their 2026 World Cup Group K clash.
Daniel Muñoz scored a decisive second-half goal as Colombia defeated DR Congo 1-0 to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup round of 32.
The Crystal Palace defender struck in the 76th minute at Estadio Akron, breaking down a resilient DR Congo defence that had been anchored by an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi.
Luis Díaz had two goals disallowed in the second half — one for a foul in the build-up and another for offside — as Colombia pressed for a winner.
DR Congo, who pushed forward in the closing stages, saw a late effort saved by Camilo Vargas, but could not find an equaliser despite their determination.
Despite the loss, DR Congo showed resilience and created late opportunities, pushing forward in added time and testing Colombia’s defence.
Colombia, who won their opening Group K match, now sit atop the standings with six points after two victories and will face Portugal in their final group game.
The result leaves DR Congo with an uphill task to advance, needing a strong victory against Uzbekistan in their final group match to boost their chances of progressing as one of the best third-placed teams.
