The 50th anniversary celebration of the Counselling Association of Nigeria (CASSON) held at Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State from 16th-21st August , 2026 has ended with a recognition of professional Counsellors who have distinguished themselves in the practice with a Golden Jubilee Excellence in Education and Counselling Awards, including the former Executive Chairman of Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Awka, Dr. Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi.
According to the organising committee of the golden jubilee celebration, Dr. Nwadinobi was pencilled for the award in recognition of her commitment and sparkling achievement in transforming the basic education sector and for establishing a functional counselling practice in Anambra State basic schools.
The event, themed: “Counselling Practice for Sustainable Livelihood and Development” attracted dignitaries from all walks of life such as top government functionaries, the Academia, and community leaders including the Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, and His Excellency, Ambassador Ita Enang who delivered the keynote address.
Others were the Senate President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Godswill Akpabio; Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji; the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Dr. Uwemedimo Ude who is also the ALGON Chairman; and the National President of CASSON, Prof. Ike Ifelunnu, among others too numerous to mention.
The event also featured welcome address by the Local Organising Committee Chairman, Prof. Ime N. George and the National President, Prof. Ifelunu, the 50th Anniversary Lecture presented by the Chairman of CASSON Board of Trustees, Prof. Frank Carew; goodwill messages, cultural performances, Free health check; cutting of the CASSON 50th anniversary cake; and Excellence awards to distinguished Nigerians in diverse fields, among other activities.
