Electral Law Ammendment: No Crisis In Anambra Assembly: Speaker, Udeze Declares

…Says the ANSIEC law was done by 26 out of 30 lawmakers

The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has said that the State Assembly is constitutionally empowered to make good laws for conduct of local government elections and general administration of the councils.

Angel Network News (ANN) recalls that the 8th assembly at plenary on Tuesday August 13, re-amended the electral law ahead of the September 28th Anambra local government elections.

Speaking on the recent announcement of the local government election in the State by the State Independent Electoral Commission and subsequent amendment of relevant sections of the ANSIEC law by the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeze maintained that sequel to the fact that Local Government Election was last held in the state over ten years ago, certain sections of the law needed to be amended to suit current realities.

The Speaker who described as unfounded and diversionary, reports trending in the social media of crisis in the State Assembly, noted that the amendment on few sections of the ANSIEC law was done by twenty six out of thirty State lawmakers due largely to the merits of the amendment.

He commended the lawmakers for their resolve to always champion the interest of the people through their Legislative engagements, adding that the amendment is in the best interest of Ndi Anambra and for the smooth running of the twenty-one Local Government Areas in the State, and called on those who undermine the integrity of the State Assembly to desist from such acts.

Rt. Hon. Udeze while revealing that the 8th Anambra State House of Assembly under his watch is not under the influence or control of any organ or authority, assured that as an independent arm of government, the House is poised to making giant contributions towards the peace and development of Anambra State.
