Enugu Cabinet Members Join APC As Mbah Defection Looms

Three Senior Commissioners Announce Switch to Ruling Party Amid Mounting Speculation of Governor’s Move from PDP.

Several members of the Enugu State Executive Council have formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), preempting an expected political realignment by Governor Peter Mbah, who was elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The defection, which signals a major shift in the state’s political landscape, was publicly confirmed Monday by an aide to the governor, even as rumors continue to circulate that Mbah himself is preparing to switch to the nation’s ruling party.

Among the key defectors are Dr. Lawrence Ezeh, Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology; Dr. Amaka Ngene, Chairman of the Science, Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board; and Dr. Felix Nnamani, Commissioner for Labour and Employment.

The move was confirmed via a video shared by Dan Nwomeh, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Media, who posted the clip on X (formerly Twitter). Nwomeh stated that the officials were making the change “with full chest,” indicating their full endorsement of the new platform.

Nwomeh wrote: “Enugu State Cabinet Members join the APC with full chest along with Governor PN Mbah – from left to right, Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology… Chairman of the Science, Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board… and Commissioner for Labour and Employment.”

Further fueling speculation of the Governor’s imminent switch, videos are currently circulating online showing the APC flag already hoisted at the Enugu Government House. Governor Mbah was elected in 2023 on the PDP ticket, and his defection to the APC is now widely anticipated in political circles in the coming days.
