EPL: Nigerian billionaire to buy Sheffield United despite club transfer ban

According to reports, an African billionaire is inching closer to acquiring Sheffield United’s ownership of the English Football League (EFL).

Dozy Mmobuosi, a Nigerian, is attempting to purchase the Sheffield club for over £90 million despite the club’s current transfer ban. Although ‘no issues have arisen’ thus far, it is understood that the prospective purchase still needs to pass the EFL’s owners’ and directors’ exam.

Mmobuosi is CEO of Tingo International Holdings, values last year at over £7billion. The businessman has also set up his own foundation in 2021 that aims to promote the progress of Africa and create an environment where Africans can thrive” where he focuses on improving education, healthcare and Information Technology development in his home country of Nigeria.

There is currently an embargo on United, who play at Brammall Lane, which made it impossible for them to buy some players in the January transfer window, but the club’s board is working on getting out of their problems. The embargo prevents them buying a player for the next 18 months unless they win promotion, was imposed because the Blades failed to keep up payment instalments on signings.

Sheffield  United, who play at Bramall Lane, are pushing for a promotion into the Premier League, they are currently 12 points behind third-placed Middlesbrough having a game in hand. Promotion is very important to them because of the current Financial situation of the club.
