Due to his controversial comments towards the Igbo tribe, more than 20,000 individuals are attempting to stop Brymo from winning his category at the 8th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
The 8th edition of the award ceremony is slated for January 15.
Brymo and some other African artistes are nominated under the ‘Songwriter of the Year’ category.
A petition against the singer was started last week by a Charles Ogundele.
The petition criticised Brymo for what it called his “hateful words” directed towards the Igbo people.
Ogundele said Brymo’s comment could trigger “disunity and hatred in a multicultural society like Nigeria.”
In the petition titled ‘Stop Brymo from winning the All Africa Music Award for Song Writer of the Year’, the ‘Ara’ crooner was referred to as an “ethnic bigot”.
The petition added that not winning the award would send a strong message to the singer.
“Brymo recently put up a series of hateful messages on Twitter toward the Igbo tribe of Nigeria, going as far as retweeting a tweet which said that all Igbos are senseless. In one of his tweets, he wrote “f*ck omo Igbo”, which translates to “f**k the Igbo people,” it reads.
“His actions are ones which spark disunity and hatred in a multicultural nation that Nigeria is. Preventing him from wining the All Africa Music Award would send a strong message to him, and people like him, that he can’t get away with such blatant ethnic bigotry.”
The 36-year-old was recently at the receiving end of widespread backlash after he argued that Igbos are not yet ripe for the presidency.
The Singer continued his disparaging remarks against the Igbo people in a later tweet.
“F**k The Ndi Igbo!! ..To Hell With It!!”. Well I know many Igbo people … and reality looks awry in them..” he had written.

As of the time of this report, over 25,000 people have signed the petition.
Paul Okoye had earlier taken a swipe at Brymo in a thinly-veiled message.
He said on a tweet:
“Mind what you are preaching .. election will come and go,we all will move on …But you decided to be a tribal bigot because you think you are getting some attention by insulting a particular region of Nigeria and some people are praising you. as an artiste I’m only disappointed”
