Family members, colleagues and senior public figures gathered in Lagos on Friday for the funeral Mass of veteran Nollywood actor Olu Jacobs, who died last month at the age of 84.
The service is being held at This Present House on Freedom Way in Lekki Phase I. Jacobs’ widow, actress Joke Silva, and their sons, Olusoji and Olugbenga Jacobs, attended dressed in blue as the actor’s flower-adorned casket was placed at the front of the church.
Among those present were Lagos State First Lady Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr Obafemi Hamzat and his wife Oluremi Hamzat, former Ogun State Governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun, and former Ekiti State First Lady Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi.
Jacobs, whose full name was Oludotun Baiyewun Jacobs, passed away on September 16. A Night of Tributes was held in his honour two days earlier at Glover Memorial Hall on Lagos Island. Guests at Friday’s funeral were requested to wear shades of green.
A private burial is scheduled to follow the Mass in line with the family’s wishes.
Jacobs was one of Nigeria’s most recognised screen performers, with a career spanning several decades in theatre, television and film.
