FCT Police Quash Claims of Assassination Plot Against Naval Officer Yerima

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command on Monday categorically dismissed circulating reports of an alleged assassination attempt on Lieutenant Ahmed Yerima, the naval officer who clashed publicly with Minister Nyesom Wike during a land dispute inspection last week, branding the rumours “completely false and mischievous.”

Spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh issued a statement urging the public to disregard viral social media claims that Yerima had survived a targeted attack, insisting no such incident was recorded and that the officer remains safe.

“The command wishes to debunk the news making the rounds in some sections of the social media alleging that there was an assassination attempt on the life of one Lt. Ahmed Yerima. The command states categorically that the news is completely false and mischievous,” Adeh declared.

She continued: “There is no record of such an incident. The officer is hale and hearty. The command urges members of the public to disregard the news in its entirety.”

The rebuttal follows a viral video from last week showing Yerima confronting Wike at a disputed Gaduwa site, an exchange that triggered nationwide debate over civilian-military protocol and land-grab allegations.

Police said the rumour appears designed to inflame tensions, with Adeh warning that those spreading falsehoods risk prosecution under cybercrime laws. No group has claimed responsibility for the misinformation, but security has been quietly reinforced around Yerima as a precaution.
