Federal College Of Education, Technical, Umunze Holds 35th Matriculation Ceremony

The Federal College of Education, Technical, Umunze has held its 35th and 13th joint matriculation ceremony for students of National Education Certificate, NCE, Degree and Professional Diploma in Education programmes of the college.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the Provost of the College, Professor Okoli in an address congratulated all the new students on their successful admission to the institution which she said is built on the solid foundation of skills and self reliance.

Okoli informed them that the ceremony is an academic ritual that marks the end of the admission programme for this year and is a formal induction of all registered students into the college community and reminded the students that their admission was strictly on merit as the institution lays strong emphasis on excellence in character and learning.

The Provost explained that the college runs NCE, Degree in affiliation with Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, and Professional Diploma in Education,PDE, programmes and disclosed that in 2019, the College secured additional six new NCE programmes and both NCE, Degree and PDE programmes of the college enjoy full accreditation status from thr regulatory bodies. 

She pointed out that the institution which is guided by the motto,”To Educate for Self Reliance”, informs the strong emphasis laid on entrepreneurship, Information and Communication Technology, technical and vocational skills, saying that in addition to its academic programmes, acquisition of ICT skills is compulsory for students of the college even as they  are encouraged to learn employable skills that would make them job creators on completion of their various programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Charles Esimone represented by the Dean, Faculty of Education, Professor Vivian Nwagbo who described education as the mother of all disciplines, congratulated the matriculants for gaining admission into the institution geared towards excellence, staffed with dedicated and committed lecturers.

Esimone advised them to strive to acquire relevant skills that will make them self reliant and employers of labour at the end of their programme.

Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh represented by the Director, Higher Education, Mrs Oyibo Alor revealed that Anambra State government is satisfied with the teaching and learning going on in the college noting that no meaningful development can take place without the provision of quality education which the state government is championing in the state.

The Provost Federal College of Education, Ofeme Ohuhu, Abia State, Dr. Titus Ezeme advised the new students not to underate the power of perseverance, cherish relationship they build with their peers and mentors, never lose sight of their purpose, and to stay true to their values and aspirations.

Some the new students, Mr Promise Itukokwu studying Fine and Applied Arts, Miss Oluchukwu Mgbii from  Chemistry Education and Mr Michael Okoye studying English and Igbo Education all expressed joy for gaining admission into the college and promised to make their parents and generation proud.
