The highly anticipated 2023 Rector Unity Cup Competition of Federal Polytechnic Oko in
Orumba North Local Government, Anambra state has commenced.
The competition which will unfold thrilling moments until November 9, promises exciting matches and coveted prizes for the deserving winners.
Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Dr. Francisca Nwafulugo in her speech highlighted the transformative power of sports, advocating for its role in promoting friendship, social cohesion, economic empowerment, and national unity.
Dr. Nwafulugo emphasized the unifying essence of sports, urging for collective efforts in shaping a harmonious and inclusive society.
Despite financial constraints, Nwafulugo expressed her unwavering commitment to sports development, highlighting her administration’s active participation in various national sports events, bringing home numerous trophies.
Her dedication was evident as she commended the steadfast support from the Federal Polytechnic Oko Community, expressing gratitude for their consistency in organizing sports competitions.
ANN gathered that the Rector’s Unity Cup promises an exhilarating showcase of sporting talent, encompassing disciplines such as Football, Volleyball, Athletics (including 100m, 200m, 400m, 1500m, and 4 by 100m), Badminton, and Table Tennis, spanning both male and female categories.
The kick-off event was graced by senior staff members, including Mr. Uche Onyegbu (Deputy Rector), Mr. Obini Onuchukwu (Ag Registrar), Dr. Nwabu Ezemba (Chief Librarian), Dr. Ferguson Ezeokafor (Director Academic Planning), Mr. Kehinde Ogubunmi (Director of Sports), and Mr. Chijioke Ibeziako (Public Relations Officer), among others.
