FG Doubles Passport Fees to ₦100k, ₦200k for Domestic Applicants from Sept 1

The Nigerian government has announced a significant increase in passport application fees for applications made within the country, effective September 1, 2025.

The updated rates set a 32-page passport (five-year validity) at ₦100,000 and a 64-page passport (ten-year validity) at ₦200,000, according to a statement from the Nigeria Immigration Service.

Applications submitted abroad remain unaffected. Nigerians in the diaspora will continue paying $150 for a five-year passport and $230 for a ten-year one.

The Immigration Service defended the price hike, citing improvements in service quality and efforts to curb corruption within the passport-issuing process.

In a related development, Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo stated that investments such as the Centralised Passport Personalisation Centre — the largest in Africa — will now enable faster processing and eliminate corrupt gatekeeping.

Passport Control Officers will no longer have the authority to delay approvals, a move aimed at streamlining operations and restoring integrity.
