Federal government on Friday congratulated Colombia’s president-elect Abelardo de la Espriella on his electoral victory and expressed readiness to deepen bilateral ties with the incoming administration.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and posted on X, the government described the election outcome as a democratic expression of the will of the Colombian people. Spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa said Nigeria looked forward to working closely with the new leadership ahead of its inauguration on August 7.
“Nigeria and Colombia share a steadfast commitment to democracy, peace and sustainable development,” the statement said.
The ministry reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening existing bonds of friendship and cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, security and South-South collaboration. It expressed confidence that relations between the two countries would continue to grow under de la Espriella’s leadership for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The government also wished the president-elect success as he prepares to assume office, voicing optimism that his administration would advance peace, progress and prosperity for the Colombian people.
De la Espriella is scheduled to be sworn in as Colombia’s president on August 7.
