The Minister of Education Prof Tahir Mamman has vowed to enforce law mandating admission age for entry into Tertiary institutions to 18 years
Mamman made this known at the 2024 policy meeting in admission into tertiary institutions & 4th Edition (2021-2022/3) Of Jamb National Tertiary Admission performance- merit (NATAP-M) awards in Abuja, Thursday.
ANN reports that the meeting was put in place to determine the modality and guidelines for admissions into tertiary institutions for the 2024 Academic sessions
The Minister mandated Jamb to admit only student who have attained the age of 18 years into tertiary institutions in its 2024 admission process
He also added that the 2024 admission criteria remained as approved urging institutions to adhere to the laid down requirements for admission processes.
Although Stakeholders currently participating at the 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) policy meeting were rattled when the Minister of Education, Prof Mamman Tahir, announced that candidates seeking admission into higher institutions must be 18 and above
The crowd roared “no, no, no” but Tahir insisted that it is already a policy which the government has keyed into because it is the expectation that candidates are much more mature at 18 years old. He said if anyone was aggrieved, they can approach the National Assembly for an amendment.
