The Federal Government of Nigeria has predicted severe flooding in 32 locations across 11 states and is urging affected communities to evacuate immediately. Rivers, particularly the River Niger, are expected to breach flood plains, posing serious risk to lives and property.
The alert was issued by the National Flood Early Warning Centre under the Federal Ministry of Environment. It warns that the rising water levels, combined with heavy rainfall, could lead to flooding in several states including Kogi, Edo, Anambra, Delta, Bayelsa, and others.
Authorities directed residents living along flood plains and river banks—especially in low-lying areas—to move to safer ground and follow instructions from local disaster management agencies.
Federal safety agencies also announced that rescue teams and resources would be prepositioned in high-risk zones to assist with evacuation and relief efforts.
