Obi who visited Makurdi in Benue State to sympathise with victims of the flood and those at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Daudu camp, said the disaster was not controlled over the years. While addressing victims of the flood at the rice mill vicinity in Makurdi’s Wadata, he noted that the federal government was forewarned but did not do the needful to mitigate the flood.
The presidential candidate further said that he suspended his campaign to go around states of the country including Benue to sympathise with the people.
Obi lamented that most victims are farmers whose plight has greatly contributed to food inflation in the country. “But, if I become president, I will bring a permanent solution to the problem,” the presidential hopeful said. Earlier, the Secretary to the Benue State Government (SSG), Professor Anthony Ijohor, who conducted the Labour Party presidential candidate around the areas, thanked him for coming to identify with the Benue people.
