FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have suspended the Nigeria Football Federation’s electoral process and ordered a review of the ongoing leadership and governance crisis, officials said.
The decision, outlined in a letter dated September 7, follows the resignation of NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi and members of the federation’s Executive Committee.
FIFA and CAF are conducting a joint assessment of the legal, administrative and electoral implications of the developments before any further steps can be taken. A joint mission is expected to travel to Abuja to meet key stakeholders and examine the situation in detail.
The planned NFF Elective Congress scheduled for September 27 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has been put on hold. The federation cannot proceed with any electoral activities until the review is completed.
The two governing bodies emphasised that they have not yet reached a final conclusion on the crisis. Any decision on the future of the election or possible further measures will depend on the outcome of the assessment.
