Federal overnment has finalised plans for the last evacuation flight from South Africa, with 315 citizens expected to arrive in Lagos on Wednesday amid ongoing xenophobic tensions.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the fifth and final operation in a statement, saying the Air Peace flight would depart Johannesburg at 1:30 a.m. local time and land at Murtala Muhammed International Airport around 6:30 a.m.
This brings to a close the emergency repatriation exercise launched to safeguard Nigerians following recent violence and insecurity in parts of South Africa. Four previous flights have already returned hundreds of citizens.
The ministry reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting its nationals abroad while thanking Air Peace and other agencies involved. The latest group marks the end of weeks of coordinated efforts to assist those wishing to return home.
