Focus More On Military Achievements Than Terrorists Attacks: Army Tells Journalists

Brigadier-General Muftau Ibrahim, the commander of the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, has urged journalists to stop giving undue attention to bandits and insurgents, but instead highlight the significant achievements of the Nigerian military.

He made the remark on Thursday during a visit from the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Cross River State.

General Ibrahim emphasised that the military had made substantial progress in combating insurgency and banditry across the country, achievements that often go unnoticed due to media focus on the sporadic successes of criminal elements.

ā€œThe media tends to highlight the rare wins of criminal elements, overshadowing the daily victories of the Nigerian military. Without media coverage of the militaryā€™s successes, the public remains unaware, leading to misinformation,ā€ Ibrahim said.

He stressed the importance of promoting militaryā€™s efforts to ensure peace and security in Nigeria.

While acknowledging a good relationship with the media, Ibrahim expressed concerns about the social media, where individuals often make inciting and provocative statements anonymously.
