Fubara Orders Immediate Renovation After Rivers Secretariat Fire

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has ordered the immediate and comprehensive renovation of the Rivers State Secretariat Complex following a fire incident on Monday evening.

Governor Fubara visited the secretariat on Tuesday morning to assess the damage to the affected section, which housed a crèche for civil servants’ children. The Governor expressed gratitude that the quick response prevented any loss of life, despite the fire partly destroying a portion of the building.

Immediate Action

Speaking after the inspection, Governor Fubara noted that the fire would accelerate his administration’s existing plans to overhaul the state’s main administrative complex, calling the unfortunate event a necessary trigger for action.

“I came here this morning to see for myself what happened yesterday. It’s really unfortunate, but we give God all the glory that no life was lost and the damage was only in one section,” he said.

He stressed that the incident must end any delay in the refurbishment plans. “We’ve been talking about the renovation of our foremost secretariat. With this particular incident, there should be no further delay. Whatever is required by this government to commence that process, we will immediately swing into action,” the Governor assured.

Fubara also commended the State Fire Service for their “swift response” to the blaze, attributing their efficiency to prior investments made by his administration in upgrading the state’s fire response infrastructure.
