Golden Eaglets Coach Commends Iloenyosi For Attracting Under-17 Scouting To Anambra

The Head coach of Golden Eaglets, Manu Garba said selection of Golden Eaglets players, for the national team, will be based on merit.

Coach Garba while speaking in an interview on Wednesday at the Awka City Stadium, venue of the trial for Golden Eaglets, expressed concern that some states do not have infrastructure to encourage young talents in sports, calling on government intervention.

The Golden Eaglets Coach accompanied by the team Coordinator, Bello Garba Gusau, to the scouting which is currently going on (January 22nd and 23rd), commended the Anambra Football Association (FA) Chairman Chikelue Ilonyesi (The General), for making the event possible in the state, describing it as first of it’s kind.

” We want the best legs to represent Nigeria and our selection will be based on merit. We already have a team but the essence of this screening is to create more competition”. Coach Manu Garba said.

The Anambra FA Chairman, Chikelue Iloenyosi while speaking, described the screening/trial as part of ways of engaging the youths meaningfully.

Iloenyosi revealed that the aim is to expose the numerous young talents in Anambra State and thereby giving them an opportunity to be part of the U-17 National Team.

” Its a great opportunity for youths to come and show their skills. This is the first time a screening exercise for potential U-17 national team, Golden Eaglets players will be held in Anambra State and am very happy.

” There will be no favoritism. Nobody is paying one naira. Am a product of grassroot football and i need to give back to the grassroots. Am driving by passing’.
This is a talent hunt and after selecting the player’s, Magnetic Resonance Imaging
(M.I.R) test will be conducted”. The General said.
