Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri on Saturday distanced himself from the Peoples Democratic Party’s decision to expel Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, warning that the move risks plunging the opposition into deeper turmoil and pledging to champion peace efforts instead.
Fintiri, who chairs the PDP’s 2025 elective national convention, issued the rebuke in a statement through his chief press secretary Humwashi Wonosikou, insisting the purge undermines party unity at a critical juncture.
“As a faithful party member, my position is clear: I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP, and I will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration. I believe that peace and reconciliation are the only ways forward for our great party,” Fintiri declared.
He called on stakeholders to prioritise healing, stating: “I urge all stakeholders to work towards healing the divisions within the party and to strive for unity and cohesion.”
Fintiri reaffirmed his commitment, adding: “As a party man, I remain committed to supporting efforts that promote peace, stability, and progress within the PDP. My position is guided by the desire for peace and reconciliation, and I will continue to work towards achieving this goal.”
The governor’s stance, issued hours after the Ibadan convention ratified Wike’s ouster alongside former Ekiti leader Ayodele Fayose, highlights mounting internal resistance to the hardline faction led by acting national chair Umar Damagum, as legal challenges loom over the legitimacy of the expulsions.
