Govs Urged To Implement School Feeding Programme In 36 States

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on School Feeding Programme, Dr Yetunde Adeniji, has asked governors of the 36 states of the federation to key into the school feeding programme and implement it in their respective states.

She spoke on Thursday in Abuja, during the opening of a two-day workshop for the domestication of the AUDA-NEPAD Continental school feeding guidelines for Nigerian state officials.

The workshop was themed, ā€œEncouraging state-driven implementation and best practices for school feeding towards local agricultural value chain, community engagement and economic developmentā€.

Daily Trust reports that while a few states have keyed into the programme, many others have not.

The presidential aide said ā€œThe relationship for the programme is between the federal government and the state government. Itā€™s a synergy. One person cannot do it alone. That is why we are here. We are here to synergise and come to terms with how to move forward.

ā€œWe need to champion feeding children, especially from the states. Some states are feeding while some are not. The best people to drive this initiative are the programme managers and the state focal persons that are within the state.ā€
