Group Claims Rebranding of Obidient Movement, Announces Obi, Tanko Expulsion

A factional group allegedly linked to the Obidient Movement has announced a rebranding of the political support structure and declared the expulsion of former presidential candidate Peter Obi and movement coordinator Yunusa Tanko ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group accused Obi and Tanko of allegedly steering the movement away from its founding ideals, claiming recent political alignments had created divisions within the organisation.

At a press briefing held in Abuja, the organisation accused Obi and his loyalists of turning the movement into a platform for “political prostitution” and using it for personal advantage and private gains.

As part of the shake-up, the group announced that the movement had been rebranded from the “#Obidient Movement” to the “#OBEDIENT Movement,” insisting that the change was necessary to distance the organisation from Obi and his supporters.

Speaking during the unveiling, the International Coordinator of the #OBEDIENT Movement, Barry Avotu Johnson, said the group had not adopted any presidential candidate for the 2027 elections and had also severed ties with the Labour Party.

According to Johnson, the rebranding became necessary because the original vision and founding ideals of the movement were allegedly abandoned after the 2023 elections by those who later assumed control of its structure.

“The original ideals of the movement are no longer adequately represented by the persons who took over its leadership after the elections,” he said.
