Gunmen kill policeman, siblings in Anambra

Four persons, including a police officer, were on Monday killed by gunmen in Anambra state.

Two were killed in Ukpor, Nnewi South Local Government Area while two others were murdered near a church, along Udorji Road, Ozubulu, in Ekwusigo Local Government Area.

This is coming barely four days after five persons were killed at a beer parlour in Osumenyi and a policewoman in Ukpor, all in Nnewi South Local Government Area of the State.

ANN gathered the duo killed in Ukpor, identified as Godwin Ikechukwu Modobi and Nnajiofor Modobi were siblings from Umuhu village in Ukpor.

Family sources revealed that Godwin Modobi was a direct younger brother to Nnajiofor Modobi, and was also a former Youth Leader in the community.

“The gunmen first killed Nnajiofor right in their house when they invaded their home in the wee hours of Monday.

“Thereafter, they blindfolded and abducted the younger brother, whom they also eventually killed close to Utuh junction and dumped his corpse at the centre of the road,” the source added.

Fired bullets were also sighted close to the corpse, which lies in pool of blood, with bullet wounds on his chest and other parts of the body.

When contacted, Police spokesperson, Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed the incident, saying one of the deceased at Utuh, Nnewi was a police officer, while Toyota camry conveying the deceased was recovered by the Police.
“We got information of two lifeless bodies along that Nnewi/Ozubulu road. Our operatives quickly went there and recovered the two bodies.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that one of them was a policeman and the other one we are yet to establish his identity.

“We also recovered a Toyata Camry allegedly belonging to one of the deceased. Operatives are there and the situation is being monitored. That’s much I know for now,” he said.
