Gunmen suspected to be bandits operating in Sankera axis have killed five people in Peva village of Kastina-Ala Local Goverment Area of Benue State.
Locals said the affected Benue village in Kastina-Ala borders communities in Takum LGA of Taraba State.
The locals said that those killed included a personnel of the community volunteer guards identified as Oliver and four others who were gunned down at a market in the area by some outlaws.
A villager, Antavee, told our correspondent by telephone that the bandits may have trailed the volunteer guard to a drinking joint in the market for allegedly furnishing security operatives about their (bandits) activities.
He said the bandits did not only get their target but also killed the four other people who were said to be sitting out with the guard.
Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Catherine Anene, did not respond to her calls and text message.
