Hold Buni accountable for parallel ward congresses in Zamfara, says Marafa

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Senator Kabir Marafa, has accused the national leadership of the party of being responsible for the parallel ward congresses that took place in the state on Saturday.

Addressing reporters yesterday in Abuja, Marafa, whose faction conducted a parallel congress in all the 147 wards of the 14 local government areas, said the APC national caretaker committee should be held responsible for the fresh crisis rocking the chapter.

The ruling party, in June, suspended congresses across the state over leadership crisis, following the defection of Governor Bello Matawalle.

A seven-man Ward Congress Committee, under the chairmanship of Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, was constituted on October 27, but the party’s leadership announced on November 5 the indefinite suspension of the ward congress in the state.

By November 10, another letter of notice was written to the Independent National Independent Commission (INEC) for the conduct of congress on Saturday, November 13.

Accusing the party’s leadership of not carrying every stakeholder along, Marafa said: “The actions of Mai Mala Buni-led APC, as it is today, show that he is on a mission to destroy the APC. But we don’t care. They have the right to destroy APC everywhere. But in Zamfara, we are interested parties. It is our state and we are not ready to destroy our own house that we built. Anybody desirous of doing so, I think we have a duty to say, ‘No, you can’t do that.’”
