Chuck Norris, the American martial artist and actor famous for his tough-guy roles in film and television, has died at the age of 86, his family announced on Thursday.
The family described the passing as sudden but peaceful, saying Norris was surrounded by loved ones.
“It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning. While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his family and was at peace,” the statement read.
They added: “To the world, he was a martial artist, actor, and a symbol of strength. To us, he was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.”
The family noted that Norris had recently been hospitalised in Hawaii for a medical emergency and thanked fans for their prayers and support.
“He lived his life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved. Through his work, discipline, and kindness, he inspired millions around the world and left a lasting impact on so many lives,” they said.
Norris rose to global fame in the 1970s and 1980s, starring alongside Bruce Lee in The Way of the Dragon and later headlining the long-running television series Walker, Texas Ranger.
The family has requested privacy as they grieve.
